At the beginning of December, just as an enormous storm hit the UK, around 30 members of Merriott Bowls Club escaped to the Riviera. The English Riviera.

Three nights in Torquay were accompanied by three indoor bowls matches. The Friday afternoon saw a Bowls drive, of two sets of six ends with players changing positions and teams for each. When the points were totted up Anne Truscott and Jim Greenfield came out winners.

Friday evening saw a curtailed snooker challenge due to the games area closing early. However David English and David Baker came out winners against Ed Rush and Barry Rosewell, primarily because they were then only ones to pot a ball!

On Saturday Merriott played a team from Totnes. Merriott stormed into an early lead, before Totnes mounted a comeback. The final result was a win for Merriott on two rinks, and a draw on the other two.

Sunday saw another bowls drive with Chris Kitto and David English taking the honours. This was followed by a quiz where Chris and Dave Kitto, Liz and Dave White, Dawn and Jim Greenfield, and Roy Hodder formed the winning time.

However it wasn’t all competition as the bar also did good trade!
