More information about the Wessex Mixed Friendly Triples...

Having played successfully in the Wessex Fours League for many years, in 2026 Merriott will also play in the Wessex Triples League.

This is as a result of an increase in the club membership, and the desire by more members to play competively against other clubs.

It also enables the club to play members in new positions and in new roles.

In addition this change and the increased playing opportunities will increase the club’s attractiveness to experienced players moving to the area or looking to change clubs.

There are 20 clubs in the league, with each club playing every other club once at home and once away.

Teams shall consist of 4 rinks of 3 players each. Each rink shall have at least 1 male & 1 female player. Each player uses three bowls.

Matches will be played over 18 ends with 2 trial ends.

Points will be awarded as follows: – winning rink 2. Drawn rink 1 each. Overall win 4. (Making 12 in total)

It is not allowed for bowlers to play in the W.M.T. league (Triples)for more than one club in any one season.

Merriot Bowling Club, along with Chardstock, Crewkerne, Ilminster, and South Petherton participate in the league primarily for player development.
All fixtures start at 6pm. A friendly game, for not only players who are new to the bowls, but for players who feel they would like a friendly introduction to league matches.
Roy has kindly offered to be our mentor again for this coming season, to guide any player who feels they need advice during play, specifically if the player has no experience in Skip, or indeed other positions. His advice in many other aspects of the game is invaluable.
Two teams of triples are played for each match. (Each playing three bowls). 16ends, No trial ends, but the first two ends can only be won by one point.
More rules and information are available on the SSBL website that Simon Shrubb has put together, and who runs the SSBL League.
