Our first triples league game was against Sherborne, a very strong team who specialise in the triples having been winners or runners up many times. Suffice to say, we didn’t win!
However we bounced straight back in the Triples with a decisive win all all four rinks against Ilminster a couple of weeks later. We also won on all four rinks against Fome Park in the Fours.
This was followed by two friendlies giving a win against Chardstock and loss to Hemyock. An evening SSBL game featuring our newer members was won by Ilminster. Our ladies had a great close game against Severalls with each club winning one rink each.
in our annual Fours Day internal competition, eight teams battled though a round robin format, with Barbara English, Dave Kitto, Eric Hall, and Mary Hill winning decisively having won all their games. Lee James, Jim Greenfield, Ann Bull and Pat Williams were runners up. Special thanks are due to Ann and Chris Truscott for running the event on the day, keeping track of the scores, and refusing the various inducements offered!
We have since had a win in the Fours against Severalls, while in the triples we drew two rinks each against Street, but lost by 5 shots overall despite valiant efforts to increase our points from Alison Mariner, Chris Woods and Jim Greenfield who won by a sizeable margin.
On 23rd May we hosted visitors from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with members from Yeovil and the surrounding areas including Merriott. They had a great afternoon of bowls and socialising (see photo) and we hope to see some of them back soon.
In the Fours league when the league points were last up we were in third place out of 13 with 34 points. Although South Petherton are 7 points ahead, we have two games in hand.
However, we have today just beaten Shepton Mallet on all four rinks, giving another 12 points to our tally. Special mention should be made of David Lewsey for an excellent performance as lead, and Simon Davis playing number 2.
